Ayurveda integrates diet, herbal remedies, yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, and physical therapy to achieve and maintain health.
Core principles
Ayurveda is an ancient system of natural medicine that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. The word “Ayurveda” comes from the Sanskrit terms ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge), translating to “the science of life.” It focuses on maintaining balance in the body, mind, and spirit to promote health and prevent illness.
Five Elements: The universe, including the human body, is composed of five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether. These elements combine to form your constitution.
Your Constitution: Ayurveda identifies three primary energies or doshas—Vata (air and ether), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (earth and water). Each person has a unique balance of these doshas, which influences their physical and mental characteristics, health, and tendencies toward certain illnesses.
Diagnosis: Ayurvedic practitioners diagnose imbalances through a variety of methods, including observation, touch, and questioning about diet, lifestyle, and mental state.
Treatment: Each person has a unique constitution (prakriti), which determines their balance of doshas. Treatment plans are tailored to an individual’s specific constitution and current imbalances.
• Herbal remedies: Natural plants and minerals are used for healing.
• Diet and Nutrition: Specific diets are prescribed to balance the doshas.
• Lifestyle changes: Recommendations for daily routines, exercise, and sleep.
• Detoxification: Practices to help cleanse the body of toxins.
• Yoga and Meditation: To harmonize the mind and body
